Do we really want to send all our good cars to the US though? ;)

Ha! Have you looked at what I just listed? Nah, I'm just posting interesting cars. And maybe, just maybe, inspire someone.

I had a look, and I'd love to own more than half of them ;)
A quick question though, could the Trabi be registred in the US?

That Yellow Trabi 601 is beautiful. Like new.
Love the Olds, I'd love to own a car like that in Europe.
Also now would be a great time to buy a car to import because the Euro has fallen so much (and the dollar has strengthened as well). Which is making me quite happy as time get closer to when I travel there in May.

I do to, actually. If only I had a mansion with a huge storage facility and unlimited cash. There's only one thing left to do: marry a rich woman.
Why wouldn't a 31 year old Trabant not be registrable in the US? Outside of California that is. I might be overlooking something though.

What are you planning on doing in Europe?

I was thinking outside Cali indeed, I just thought that an East German Two Stroke would be hard to register there. But hey, Jay Leno owns a Volga.. sooo..

I'm not sure, but if it has proper German paperwork proving >25 years of age, it's outside of California and there's a bill of sale I don't really see the problem. But I'm very far from an expert.

Going all over Germany with a class from school. It's the first time I will be in Germany since my family moved back to the states in Sep. 1990.

It was the proper german paperwork I thought about, but it IS Germany, so I guess it's there, even though the car is old and from the eastern part :)

The fact that the 308 GTB replica has a GTS badge kind of annoys me...

Not a clue, although you could tell a European (myself included) anything about the name of this car and they'd believe you as it's utterly unknown here.

Young Americans don't remember any Oldsmobiles either, you'd think that most people would have at least heard of a Cutlass, but that isn't the case.

Rough? It looks like it's in good shape to me.

I'm biased as I own a similar one that's in better shape optically, has a pristine interior (with restored bolsters!) and is as mechanically sound as one can be. It also doesn't have the driving lights removed, it has the correct mirrors and there are details that I don't like as much in the eBay one.

What annoys me even more is that I can't find any mention of the donor vehicle or donor engine.

Doesn't that CX GTI!!!! not scream "duurtlang come get me" to you? It has your name written all over it. Sell the 205, and the Bimmer, and do the right thing!

I can't read German so I definitely couldn't figure that one out either. I'm guessing the best way to try to figure it out is to look at the dash and compare it to any cheaper mid-engined cars that are somewhat common over there. (Fiero or MR2 maybe)

Ha! I'd like that, but I'm too afraid right now. I don't have a garage, I'm mechanically inexperienced, I don't have a Citroλn lover nearby to help me out as my mechanic is an E30 fan and I already have a great highway cruiser in the 406 coupe. The 205 GTI supplements it as a chuckable go kart, and I don't get to drive that car nearly enough. Not that I'm not planning on selling the BMW (and possibly the 205) though, the E30 Touring will go when the work is done and I've found a buyer.
I will buy a CX though. Some time in the future.

you can register a Saab 2 stroke easy enough, they were even "federalised" for some time.

Good call, the dash gives it away. It's a Fiero. Look at that vent next to the passenger door.

Oh yeah, no doubt. I kind of figured it wasn't an MR2, and now that I see the interior in a better picture, that's undoubtedly GM.

The moment I'm able (i.e. I can afford to) I intend to import... uh... something, so yes, you should keep this up to give me ideas, and in the mean time, more things to want.

Do keep in mind that now is the perfect time to import a car from the Euro zone, as the value of the Euro has plummeted recently, making car in Europe cheap for those outside of Europe. I expect the Euro to rise back up again. Eventually. Not having enough money can be prohibitive though, I do get that :)

Yeeeeah, the whole not having a house, garage, or regular income thing also stifles the plan. By the end of the summer I hope to be settled into a life (I'll be graduating with my degree in electrical engineering at the beginning of May) so by next year I'll be trying to get into something unusual/fun/import-y.
